Rittenhouse 330-1 Gem

Rittenhouse 330-1 Gem Mid Century Resonator Door Chime

Rittenhouse 330-1 Gem ~1960

This mid-century resonator door chime features a unique welded iron frame surrounding the resonator chambers and an anodized aluminum grille.

Described in the 1960 Rittenhouse Catalog:

330 – GEM – Strikingly different chime in wrought iron and brass or wrought iron and copper finishes.

Rittenhouse was acquired by the Emerson Electric Company in the early 1960s and became part of the Emerson Electric Builder Products Division. In 1966 the brass finished Gem had become the RC330-1 and the copper version was the RC330-2.

Even in 1960, the Gem, with iron and aluminum construction, was bucking the trend as manufacturers, including Rittenhouse, increasingly turned to plastic covers. The 330 Gem series chimes were available from approximately 1960 until perhaps 1970. The Gem was likely a victim of cost pressure due to manufacturing costs.

    1. Any standard doorbell transformer will work. Available from any home center or hardware store. I recommend using the 16 volt terminals of a triple-volt transformer.
