Nutone Continental Model K33 with Aluminum Cover
This iteration of the Nutone K-33 Continental appeared in few NuTone catalogs, although there is one illustration in the 1962 catalog. The cover is cast aluminum, an unusual material for NuTone. Available with a Walnut finish or Limed Oak as in this example. The grain is quite convincing and may, or may not have been, hand painted.
This chime had the NuTone double acting solenoid which frequently jammed. The label’s service instructions required the electrical portion to be removed from the base:
SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS TO CLEAN STRIKER
1. REMOVE DUPLEX UNIT FROM BASE.
2. PLACE A FEW DROPS OF LIGHTER FLUID OR NAPTHA INTO END OF SLEEVE WHILE HELD WITH OPEN ENDS UP AND DOWN.
3 SHAKE UNIT VERY GENTLY UNTIL STRIKER MOVES FREELY IN SLEEVE.
CAUTION: VIOLENT SHANKING MAY PERMANENTLY DAMAGE PLUNGER SPRINGS
4. REPLACE UNIT ON BASE PLATE
DO NOT OIL POWER UNIT.
